From aristocratic estate to boutique hotel
Some projects are more like personal missions. The opportunity for us to engage in such a 'project of a lifetime' arose in 2019.
But let's start at the beginning. Directly opposite the Gartenheim lies one of the oldest estates of Tramin. It was built in the 15th century by the aristocratic Langenmantel merchant family from Augsburg. The outbuildings originally served for the production and storage of wine, which the noble family profitably exported to German-speaking Europe.
The family's wealth is very much evident in the architecture of the main building. Marble heraldic shields and decorative alcoves grace the family seat, while the adjacent tower is home to the well known „Trinkstübele“ with frescoes by the painter Bartlmä Dill Riemenschneider. In terms of architectural and art history, the building is hugely valuable and the entire estate is listed as a protected monument.
A treasure of art and architectural history
Time and again, we would gaze across at this exceptional building in Tramin's historic quarter of "Bethlehem" and feel sadness at the sight of its decline. Then, in 2019, the opportunity suddenly arose to acquire the residence and outbuildings. Our aim now is to bring the estate back to life and thereby resurrect a piece of forgotten village history.
Living in comfort – surrounded by history
In cooperation with the town of Tramin and the Heritage Authority of the autonomous province of South Tyrol we aim to gently revitalise the estate, which will be a considerable challenge. Our plan is to preserve the unusual character of the building and to upgrade it with modern-day conveniences and high-quality interiors. This will result in exceptional and highly individualistic suites for our guests. Thanks to a direct access, future residents will also be able to enjoy the pool, conservatory and garden of the *** B&B Gartenheim. We hope to have completed the renovation by 2022 at the latest. Welcome to the Langenmantel suites, where historic charm meets exclusive living and unique scenery!
